The origin of "Digital Sovereignty"

Digital Sovereignty as a business is an outgrowth of the simple concept that technology exists to serve the user, the user doesn’t exist to serve the technology. As I believe I have accomplished this ideal to a large degree in my life, this business exists to bring that reality to others as a service.

The fundamental drive off our business is to increase the sovereignty of others in their navigation of the digital world: to move people off of digital plantations onto their own estate. In many of my previous employments, I witnessed firsthand how many businesses paid tens of thousands of dollars for software which they didn’t own, and which they hardly used. The companies always fostered dependence, constantly restricted features even under the most expensive plans, and were always in it for another upsell.

Once I moved on from those positions, I sought ways to accomplish the things these proprietary softwares promised to provide, without the accompanying dependence. This lead into my discovery of these open source, and the very tools which I promote in this business.

I believe in freedom and independence from techno-oligarchs. I hope my business can bring these values to our clients.
